Tihar is a five-day-long Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal in October or November. It is also known as the festival of lights and it is time for people to worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and celebrate the bond between humans and animals.
During Tihar, people decorate their homes with colorful lights, rangolis and flowers, and engage in various cultural activities such as singing and dancing. One of the main features of the festival is the worship of animals like cows, dogs, crows, which are considered sacred and are believed to bring good luck and prosperity. On the last day of the festival, brothers and sisters are celebrating BhaiTika, where sisters offer prayers and offerings, wishing for the protection and longevity of their brothers.
Tihar is an important cultural event in Khandbari, where people from all walks of life gather to celebrate Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and traditions. Festivals are a time of joy, unity and gratitude, and an opportunity for people to reconnect with their families and loved ones.
